Hemp pulp offers up to five times longer fibre, higher tear and tensile strength. Hemp has a lower lignin content which must be removed chemically. The paper obtained is smooth and the blue ink used is natural indigo. The seasoned reed is the main writing instrument with the end cut into an angled nib, which must be cut regularly as it wears. Vegetable dyes are used to colour  the paper.  Small but elegant designs at the margins clearly reveal the exclusive geometric patterns in their mosque.  The script used Hijazi and Arabic language during the period of Ottoman reign (568-645 AD); beeswax makes the paper smooth.
